Govee Matter LED strips often fail at the Google Home step: the strip appears in Govee Home, but Google Home hangs on Connecting. Strips draw more current during Wi-Fi join than small plugs — weak outlets and 5 GHz steering are common causes.
Prepare the strip
Update firmware in Govee Home on a wall outlet, not a dimmer. Confirm your SKU supports Matter in your region. Use solid 2.4 GHz coverage; pause band steering or use a dedicated IoT SSID during setup.
Commission to Google Home
Phone, Nest hub, and strip need the main LAN — no guest Wi-Fi or VPN. Update Google Home and hub firmware. Delete failed partial entries before retrying. Scan QR in good light; manual codes must match the label.
If loops persist, factory reset per Govee Matter guide, wait two minutes, commission to Google Home only — not Govee and Google at once. Reboot Nest hub once if Govee sees the strip but Google does not.
Verify
Control from Google Home without Govee open. Routines should respond within two seconds for 24 hours.
